Horns from several boats sounded as the final piece of the old tugboat dipped beneath the water to take its place as Palm Beach County’s newest artificial reef and remind some of a loved one who lost his life a year ago Friday.
Danny McCauley, who was 17 at the time, died Feb. 22, 2012, when the Jeep Wrangler he was driving on Forest Hill Boulevard near the entrance of Okeeheelee Park left the road and hit a fence, utility pole and tree. A family friend suggested the McCauleys create an artificial reef in memory of the avid fisherman and diver.
