The Federal Aviation Administration will keep air traffic control towers at the Boca Raton Airport and Martin County’s Witham Field open through Sept. 30, providing a four-month reprieve for local officials who have argued against their closure.
The U.S. Department of Transportation said Friday that a bill approved by Congress last month would free up enough money to keep towers at 149 small airports, including Boca Raton and Witham Field, open through the end of the federal budget year. The towers were slated to close June 15.
