West Palm police: Man arrested in April fatal shooting of teen

Javon Lusane, or “Hittman,” faces charges of second-degree murder and a felon in possession of a weapon. Judge Caroline Shepherd on Tuesday ordered Lusane held without bail.

Between witness statements, cellphone data and video in the area, police were able to determine Lusane shot and killed 18-year-old Ledarius Fitzgerald.

On April 19, police responded to the intersection of 15th Street and Division Avenue, where Fitzgerald was found lying in the street at 5:15 a.m. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. Fitzgerald is one of 64 people killed in Palm Beach County this year, according to a Palm Beach Post database.

Witnesses told police Lusane and others were driving in a white Chrysler 300, when Lusane noticed Fitzgerald, known as “Little D,” and he stopped the car. Lusane got out of the car, spoke with the teen for a little while, then pulled a gun and shot him several times. Fitzgerald was shot in the chest and back, according to an autopsy from the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Lusane allegedly said that he shot Fitzgerald because he was “talking (expletive),” according to the report.

Video from the area of the shooting showed a white Chrysler enter and leave the scene of the shooting, police said. Cellphone data from one witness who was allegedly with Lusane the night of murder was tracked in the area at the time of the shooting, according to the report.

When police searched Lusane’s Facebook page, they saw a gun matching the caliber that was used to kill Fitzgerald, according to the report. Lusane, who has been convicted of several felonies, admitted to having a photo of the gun on his Facebook page but said that he had nothing to do with the teen’s murder, according to police.

Fitzgerald was convicted of domestic battery and strangulation in 2014, grand theft in both 2011 and 2010, according to Palm Beach County court records.

Lusane also has an open case on charges of strangulation and domestic battery.
