Mayor Jeri Muoio says she’ll meet in the next week or two with about 100 concerned merchants at the 45th Street Flea Market, a magnet for crime, prostitution and drug sales.
The market has been the scene of at least five shootings, more than one fatal, in the last two decades. On Sept. 28, one person was killed and another wounded in an incident. A 20-year-old man who’d been chased through the market and shot in the back in August later sued the owner, claiming he failed to provide adequate security to protect visitors.
