The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy who fatally shot a 49-year-old knife-wielding man at the man’s suburban West Palm Beach home Friday is a seven-year veteran of the sheriff’s office who has close to a dozen letters of commendation and numerous certificates for his performance and only one letter of reprimand.
Deputy Daniel Mercier is currently on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol after an officer-involved shooting.
