Man spent 25 years in prison for attempted murder, arrested again

About five months after Walter Greathouse finished his 25-year prison sentence for attempted murder, the 49-year-old was arrested again for reportedly pistol-whipping his girlfriend’s ex.

The father of his girlfriend’s son went to her West Palm Beach home Nov. 15 to discuss rumors that their son was involved with recent gang feuds in the city, a police report states. The woman and Greathouse were offended by the man’s accusations, and the argument turned physical, the police report states.

First, the woman pistol-whipped her son’s father on the head while they were on a balcony. Then Greathouse grabbed the gun and hit the man with it three more times on the head and face, the man told police. The man had multiple cuts on his head and face that required staples to heal, according to a police report.

When police responded to the home on Seventh Street, west of North Australian Avenue, they found blood down the railing leading from the woman’s home. She told police she’d pushed her son’s father out of the doorway, but denied knowing anything more. She does not appear to have been charged in the incident.

Greathouse, however, is charged with aggravated battery, felony battery, violation of the conditions of his prison release and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. He was arrested Wednesday and is being held without bond in the Palm Beach County Jail.

Greathouse was released from prison in June after spending 25 years behind bars for being convicted of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery and a weapon offense stemming from an incident in 1989, according to state prison records.
