A Lakeland woman is suing Michelin North American and the Ford Motor Co., claiming a tire separation caused a 2010 rollover crash in South Bay that killed her 9-year-old son.
The lawsuit, filed by Willmar Frometa, was moved from Palm Beach County Circuit Court to federal court this week.
In the lawsuit, she claims the tire separation caused her to lose control of her Ford Explorer as she was driving north on U.S. 27. The port-utility vehicle rolled over several times and then caught fire. Frometa’s husband and two other sons were also injured.
At the time, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies blamed the crash on a bad tire.
