A doctor on trial for allegedly causing the overdose deaths of two patients called some of those he treated at a so-called pain clinic on Okeechobee Boulevard “hillbillies” and acknowledged many of them were hard-core drug addicts, a DEA agent told a federal jury Tuesday.
In a damning portrayal of the 74-year-old who claims he did nothing wrong, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Agent Alfred Cortes said Dr. Joseph Castronuovo admitted that the work he did at the clinic, part of a $40 million illicit pill mill operation run by Wellington resident Chris George, was illegal.
