Amtrak should pay a Palm Beach County teacher $180,000 for injuries she sustained when a train struck an object on the tracks and came to an abrupt stop while she was accompanying fifth-graders on a 2010 trip to Washington, D.C., a federal magistrate ruled this week.
Leslie Cleaver, 52, who now teaches at Del Prado Elementary School in Boca Raton, suffered a herniated disk in her neck when she was thrown forward as the train lurched and then came to an abrupt stop, said her attorney John Seligman.
