A former Delray Beach restaurant owner faces larceny charges after state investigators found the woman allegedly avoided paying nearly $200,000 in sales taxes.
Wendy R. Rosano, of Boca Raton, was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail early Monday morning and was released later in the day after posting a $18,500 bond. Aside from larceny, court records show that Rosano was also booked into jail for an out of county warrant.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Florida Department of Revenue, Rosano owned two companies that ran two restaurants at 19950 Jog Road in suburban Delray Beach.
Mio Delray Inc. operated Cucina Mio restaurant, and Mio on Jog Inc. ran the Lola Restaurant and Lounge, the report says. Both restaurants are no longer in business.
State investigators report that Mio on Jog Road collected $191,465 in sales taxes between August 2009 until March 2011, but remitted only $86,484 to the state.
The probe also found that Mio Delray took in $164,558 in sales taxes from September 2009 through March 2011 but remitted only $93,610.
Rosano remains in the local restaurant business as general manager at Terre Fiamma Italian Restaurant at 9169 West Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach. A Palm Beach Post review of Terre Fiamma in June described Rosano as a “veteran local restaurateur” who described her new eatery as “upscale Italian, cool and hip, but comfortable.”
Attempts to reach Rosano were not successful.
