NEW: 3-year-old girl dies after St. Lucie crash on New Year’s Eve 


A 3-year-old is dead after a 2003 Acura slammed into the car she was a passenger in St. Lucie County.

The accident happened just after 8 a.m. on New Year’s Eve at Midway and Glades Cut Off roads, just southwest of Fort Pierce. 

Zyanna Laguerre,  3, was taken to Lawnwood Medical where she died.

Florida Highway Patrol officials said Anthony Ahrens, 25, of Fort Pierce was travelling west on Midway Road when he failed to slow down at the intersection.

His car ran into a Honda Accord, which Zyanna was a passenger in, and then flipped over onto its side before hitting a Chevy.

Two other people in the Accord also were taken to Lawnwood Medical. The driver, Ednelson Laguerre, 25, of Fort Pierce, had minor injuries and 1-year-old Kyah Laguerre has serious injuries, according to the FHP release. 
The driver of the Chevy, the third car hit, was Daniel Duverton, 49, of Port St. Lucie. He had minor injuries. 

The crash is under investigation.
