NEW: Trump takes aim at LaVar Ball, NFL in tweets sent from Palm Beach

President Donald Trump took to Twitter the morning during his first full day in Palm Beach to share his thoughts on NBA personality LaVar Ball and the NFL.

In a trio of tweets sent around 5:30 a.m., Trump addressed LaVar Ball, the father of Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball, as well as a rumored NFL rule change that would keep players in the locker room during the National Anthem.

Trump and Ball have engaged in a verbal back-and-forth since the president took credit for freeing Ball’s son, LiAngelo, from a Chinese jail after he, and two of his teammates on the UCLA basketball team, were arrested for allegedly shoplifting from a mall in China.

Trump seemed to take issue with LaVar Ball’s recent CNN interview in which Ball was dismissive of Trump’s role in his son’s release from jail. In the tweets, the president referred to LaVar as “a poor man’s version of Don King,” and called him an “ungrateful fool.”

President Trump also sent out a tweet about an alleged change to an NFL policy that would keep teams in the locker room during the National Anthem. He shot down the proposed strategy to curtail anthem protests, calling it “almost as bad as kneeling” and challenged NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to “get tough and smart.”
