NEW: Eight pets rescued from fire at Lake Worth home

Eight family pets were rescued from a house fire Thursday morning in suburban Lake Worth, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue reports.

Firefighters responded shortly before 9:45 a.m. to the 100 block of Akron Road, south of Lake Worth Road and east of Florida’s Turnpike. Residents of the home told firefighters that four dogs and four cats were inside.

Firefighters entered the home and rescued the pets. Three firefighters were bitten during the rescue and treated for their injuries, said Capt. Albert Borroto, spokesman for Fire Rescue.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
