Deputies tried arresting John Quincey Stephens on Monday on a felony warrant at a family member’s home in Silver Springs, deputies said.

Stephens stole the family’s vehicle and fled, deputies said. Stephens later admitted to “taking a shot” of heroin during the pursuit and said he was sorry for what he had done because he was high on drugs, investigators said.

Stephens was arrested after abandoning the stolen vehicle and running away, investigators said. Deputies found heroin in the car, investigators said.

Stephens was bitten by a K-9 and was taken to a local hospital for his injuries, deputies said. He then was transported to the Marion County Jail, deputies said.

Stephens faces charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers, resisting without violence, possession of heroin and driving while license suspended or revoked, as well as other charges stemming from a previous arrest, deputies said.
