UPDATE: With Sam’s Club near Lantana closing at the end of the month, 191 workers will lose their jobs, according to a memo from the company.
The store will close to the public. Jan. 26. Hourly employees will be terminated March 16 and workers in management will be terminated April 13.
All employees found out Thursday, according to the memo.
ORIGINAL POST: The Sam’s Club near Lantana will close Jan. 26, according to Mayor David Stewart.
Stewart said he received a memo from the company announcing the closing of the store at 7233 N. Seacrest Blvd.
“I’m very sad to see Sam’s Club go from the local area because I believe it was a great establishment that provided a great value for all our residents in the area and for many businesses that were dependent on them for their local supplies,” he said.
The Lantana-area location’s voicemail says the store is closed Thursday but will reopen Friday.
Sam’s Club also has a location on 45th Street in West Palm Beach. The status of that store is unknown, however it is open today.
Media outlets Thursday have been reporting closures nationwide including in Ohio, Texas and Tennessee.
The company issued this statement on Twitter: “After a thorough review of our existing portfolio, we’ve decided to close a series of clubs and better align our locations with our strategy. Closing clubs is never easy and we’re committed to working with impacted members and associates through this transition.”
