Trump in Palm Beach: Wall of school buses to protect the president

Among the arsenal being assembled to protect President Donald Trump when he arrives next week for Thanksgiving are…school buses.

The yellow school buses are parked end-to-end along a fence at Palm Beach International Airport where Air Force One is parked while the president is in town. The buses were also used in 2013 when President Obama visited Palm Beach County.

Presumably, the buses would foil an attack from the access road along the south side of the airport - where Trump used to park his $100 million Boeing 757 emblazoned with TRUMP. However, the conga line of buses give the impression that a hoard of school children have arrived to watch the president land.

In June, after Trump’s seventh visit to Palm Beach, there was talk of getting rid of the school buses for a more permanent and secure barrier. The buses were removed after Trump’s final visit but Saturday morning they were back.

Meanwhile, at Mar-a-Lago there was no visible evidence that the president would be arriving in several days. Smoke from a barbecue at Mar-a-Lago’s private beach wafted across the road and cars slowed as they tried to get a glimpse of the opulent estate.

Trump is expected to arrive roughly around 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 21 and leave around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 26th, according to the “VIP Movement Notification” that was issued by the FAA.
