These events will honor veterans in northern Palm Beach County


Here are a few events around northern Palm Beach County where you can learn from and honor veterans.

PALM BEACH STATE COLLEGE

The college, 3160 PGA Blvd., will host a Freedom Fit Fest Nov. 9. Meet at the amphitheater. 

The Marine Corps Combat Fitness Test will be offered from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. There will be Qi Gong Tai Chi at 1:30 p.m.

A 2.2-mile run/walk will start at 2:30 p.m. It’s to raise awareness of 22 veterans who take their lives each day. 

PGA NATIONAL PARK 

Voice for Veterans, a new non-profit organization that pairs veterans and businesses, is hosting a Hailing Our Heroes Picnic 11:30 a.m. Nov. 10 at PGA National Park, 1 Ryder Cup Blvd to honor veterans. Guests include state Sen. Bobby Powell, D-West Palm Beach; state Rep. Matt Willhite, D-Wellington, and Pam Keith, Democratic candidate for U.S. Congressional District 18.

C.R. Chicks will provide food and refreshments. The cost is $15 per person. RSVP by Nov. 8 to eric.bruns@voice4veterans.org. 

PALM BEACH GARDENS

The city will have its ceremony 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Veterans Plaza Amphitheater, 10500 North Military Trail. The Palm Beach Gardens Police and Fire Honor Guard will present the colors. The Palm Beach Gardens High School “Pizzazz” Chorus will provide the music.

NORTH PALM BEACH

The village will have its Veterans Day ceremony 9 a.m. Nov. 11 at Veterans Memorial Park, 303 Anchorage Drive, next to the North Palm Beach Public Library behind Village Hall. 

Retired Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Thomas A. Matteo, a Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart recipient, will speak. Matteo had a career in law enforcement and became a consultant for federal agencies and a task force. He was diagnosed with an Agent Orange-related disease in 2005.

Resident Briley Crisafi will sing the national anthem and “God Bless America.” 

The American Red Cross will provide water, and Boy Scout Troop 155 will help honor veterans.
