Riviera police: Woman drives car off tow truck, tries to hit officer

A Riviera Beach woman who parked in a fire lane on Friday was not happy about her car getting towed.

Police said Lanett Tuff, 24, got into her car while it was on the tow truck, started the engine and drove off the truck ramp “intentionally” trying to hit the officer to get him out of the way.

At around 11:30 a.m., a Riviera Beach police officer noticed Tuff’s 2009 Dodge Charger parked in the fire lane inside Stony Brook apartment complex on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and called a towing company to remove the vehicle. As Tuff’s car was getting hooked to the tow truck, she appeared at the scene and got into her car, ignoring the officer’s commands.

Once Tuff drove off the truck ramp she fled the scene, leading the officer on a brief chase around a parking lot with children in the area, the report states.

Tuff eventually stopped her car at one of the apartment buildings and was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on an officer and reckless driving.

She was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail and released Saturday on a $1,000 bond.
