The Gateway for Cancer Research event, which was held at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club last season, will not return, the charity’s organizers have told The Washington Post.
“Gateway for Cancer Research has decided to withdraw from Mar-a-Lago as a venue for its March 2018 St. Patrick’s Day event,” reads a statement released to a Post reporter late Tuesday. “Gateway, a 501c3 non-profit, is solely focused on funding clinical research trials to find meaningful treatments and cures for all patients fighting cancer. The organization has appreciated the generous support and commitment of the Palm Beach commuity to its mission.”
The charity becomes the 22nd organization to decide to move its event from the president’s club this year and the 17th since Trump’s comments last week about violence in Charlottesville, Va.
Last year, the organization honored Mar-a-Lago member Patrick Park during its St. Patrick’s Day event at the club. Trump was in town and stopped in.
