NEW: Town amends plan to build 300-vehicle parking lot on Jupiter’s A1A

New parking lot would start out with about 170 spaces, could be expanded to 300 spaces (Town of Jupiter)

A proposal to amend the conditions of approval to build a 300-vehicle public parking lot on the southeast corner of A1A and Parkway Street in the town’s Inlet Village was approved at Tuesday’s night’s town council meeting.

The three-acre property, now vacant, is owned by Charles Modica, who has won approval to build an outdoor market place on Love Street.

Parking lot plans call for space for about 170 vehicles. About 100 spaces would be paved and the rest on the grass. The lot could be expanded to 300 spaces. No valet parking would be allowed, according to the plan.

Park benches, trees for shade, landscaping, bicycle racks, art and decorative pavers are also planned. No direct access to the parking lot is scheduled to and from A1A. Access is planned to and from Parkway Street.

The approved amendments include changes to the traffic pattern and the amount of preserved land required. The approved plan requires Modica to contribute about $160,000 to a town fund to buy and maintain environmentally sensitive land.

Also the council approved:

* Allowing the new town manager, Matt Benoit, to start this week. Benoit’s annual salary is $215,000. Benoit was town manager in Huntsville, Texas. Benoit, 43, was scheduled to start work Wednesday, Feb. 21.

* $1.1 million for construction of drainage and water main improvements on Elsa and Paulina roads, in the neighborhood east of Alt. A1A and north of Jupiter Beach Road. The work will be done by Miami-based V Engineering and Consulting Corporation.

* A one-year, renewable contract for well rehabilitation services for the town’s to Layne Christensen Company. The estimated 2018 fiscal year budget is $320,000, in 2018 $330,000 and in 2020 the amount is estimated at $340,000.

* A contract not to exceed about $723,000 for street resurfacing in the Ridge and the Lakes of Bluffs, Toney Penna Drive, and Jupiter Oaks neighborhood. The work will be done by West Palm Beach-based JW Cheatham llc.
