Martin County promotes interim chief to lead Fire Rescue

Martin County on Tuesday named Bill Schobel as its new Fire Rscue chief.

Schobel, 51, has been the county’s interim chief since May. Before that, he led its training bureau.

Schobel has been with the department — Martin County’s largest, with a budget of nearly $40 million and 352 employees — since 2010.

Prior to joining Martin County, Schobel spent 25 years with Seminole Fire Rescue near St. Petersburg, rising from the rank of firefighter-EMT to training chief. He also is an U.S. Army veteran, serving during Desert Storm.
