The Lake Worth Pier will be closed to the public effective immediately due to storm conditions, the city said.
High winds through the night and dangerous surf have caused a danger to public safety, the city said. Conditions will continue to be monitored and when the high winds and surf subsiding stop, the pier will reopen.
The pier was built in 1959 as a platform for laying a sewage outfall pipe into the ocean. The original wooden fishing pier opened in January 1960, and it’s been torn apart by storms and rebuilt several times since then.
