Juno Beach pier has a sure cure for sunburns

Beachgoers can get a free handful of sun screen from a dispenser at the Juno Beach Fishing Pier that was installed June 13 courtesy of the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation and the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department.

The yellow dispensers have also been installed at Ocean Cay Park and Jupiter Beach Park in north county. Other dispensers are at Okeeheelee Park in West Palm Beach and Coconut Cove Water Park in Boca Raton. More dispensers to provide the free lotion are planned.

The dispensers are being installed to raise awareness and protect beachgoers from skin cancer. Funding is from private donors, often in memory of friends lost to the disease, said Lisa Richman of the Melanoma Foundation.

The dispensers cost $525, including sunscreen, a pole, stand and signage. A donation of about $200 pays for about 4,000 squirts of sun screen.
