Court hearing Friday for man accused of killing two Jupiter paramedics


 

Genero De La Cruz Ajqui, the driver of a car Jupiter police say hit and killed two paramedics on Indiantown Road on June 1, is scheduled for a status check hearing on Friday morning in Palm Beach County circuit court.

Ajqui, of Southwest Drive in Jupiter, was the driver of the Chrysler Sebring that killed Lahiri Garcia, 51, and Paul Besaw, 36, according to Jupiter police.

Dawn Besaw, who was married to Paul Besaw at the time of the accident, is unsure if she will attend. The couple’s daughter, 5-year-old Allison, is in first grade.

“It’s all so frustrating how slow this process works,” said Dawn Besaw.

Garcia, a 23-year employee who lived in Port St. Lucie, was a critical care supervisor. Besaw, a 17-year employee who lived in Weston, was a critical care paramedic and supervisor, according to their ambulance company, American Ambulance Response.

Ajqui, 39, is charged with with two counts of DUI manslaughter, two counts of vehicular homicide, one count of DUI damage to person/property, and one count of driving without a license causing death.
