Hunters Run Country Club is one of at least three country clubs in the Boynton Beach area planning a multi-million dollar renovation to its clubhouse.
The community at Congress Avenue south of Woolbright Road is planning a $13.5 million renovation to its clubhouse, a golf course and its pool area.
Construction is expected to start in April and be completed by November.
Club members approved the plan earlier this summer.
“If you don’t keep up you fall back,” said Hunters Run President Bernie Silver. “We’re all in to try to get new members and so we know that we have to keep doing things in order for us to be at the top level, which is where we are now.”
The community has 1,649 units.
West of city limits at Jog Road north of Gateway Boulevard, Aberdeen Country Club also has plans for a renovation. Aberdeen’s upgrades include the lobby, dining room, offices, the pro shop and restrooms, which all together is about 25,000 square feet, according to a news release from Verdex Construction, the company doing the renovation.
“The renovations are part of a larger reconstruction project involving the Aberdeen Country Club golf course and tennis facilities,” the statement says.
The community is still waiting for permits to be approved to begin construction, said Tony Theissen with the O’Donnell Agency public relations firm.
And Quail Ridge Country Club started construction in May 2016 on a $22 million clubhouse expected to open in December, Rebecca Seelig said on behalf of the club.
The clubhouse at Golf Road and Congress Avenue will have enhanced views of the putting green, driving range, waterfall, tower clock and short-game practice area. There will be two large outdoor dining areas and an outdoor bar, she said.
While expensive, the three club updates are on a smaller scale than expansions happening in the north part of the county. BallenIsles Country Club is undergoing a $35 million expansion and The Club at Ibis has a new $37 million clubhouse and sports complex.
At Boynton’s Hunters Run , crews will renovate the north golf course, the swimming pool area and the surrounding area at the main clubhouse.
The north golf course will be redone “from its underlying infrastructure to its tee boxes, fairways and greens,” according to a news release.
A resort-style pool will have lap lanes and a separate water aerobics area as well as a beach entry feature. There will be a kiddie pool, a Jacuzzi and a tiki bar and seating area. There will be more shaded areas, a redecorated daytime outdoor eating area and a fire pit. There will also be a second-level sunset dining deck.
“It’s going to be magnificent and people will come in and say ‘wow’,” Silver said.
