BOCA RATON — A sea of bright mats, colorful yoga pants and fitness-focused visitors flooded Boca Raton’s Mizner Park on the morning of New Year’s Day, just as it happened a year ago.

The event was Something BIG, an annual group yoga class on the lawn at Mizner Park to kick off the new year with personal health in mind. Led by Leslie Glickman, who owns Yoga Journey studio in Boca Raton, the 4th annual Something BIG once again drew hundreds to downtown Boca Raton on Monday.

And it was just one of many free fitness classes in Boca Raton, for those of us who topped our resolution lists with healthy habits. Weekly Zumba classes and yoga sessions will be offered at Boca Raton parks.

Here are two free fitness series to look out for:

Yoga on the square

Every Saturday morning beginning Jan. 6 at Sanborn Square, a small public park at Palmetto Park Road and Federal Highway, you’ll find a free group yoga session. Led by professionals from Yoga Journey studio in Boca Raton, the one-hour classes begin at 9 a.m. and are open to the public.

Bring yoga mats, water and loads of energy.

With the scent of salt water to keep you awake, classes begin at 10:30 a.m.

Bring sneakers, a towel and water.
