Deborah Feinsinger, Health and Wellness Program coordinator, is one of 12 Healthy School Hero Award winners from Action for Healthy Kids. Feinsinger founded the school’s Running Club and Golf Club, and she hosts the school’s annual Health and Wellness Food and Fitness Olympic Expo. In March is she sponsoring the third annual Strive Five for the Hive 5K Run, 3K Walk.
The school and the Kiwanis of North Palm Beach are co-sponsoring the third annual Strive Five for the Hive 5K Run, 3K Walk at 8 a.m. March 11 at The Gardens Mall. Those who register at www.active.com (search for Allamanda) by Friday can participate in a contest to win a 2018 Honda. The first 300 registered participants will receive a dry-fit race shirt. There will be trophies for first place, participant medals and breakfast at Brio Tuscan Grille for all registered participants.
An exhibition of artwork in the 2018 Regional Scholastic Arts Awards takes place Feb. 24 at the Armory Art Center, 811 Park Place, West Palm Beach. An award ceremony honoring all winners begins at 1 p.m., followed by the exhibition from 2 to 4 p.m. Gold and Silver Key work — about 438 pieces — will be on display. Students who receive a Gold Key will proceed to national competition for additional awards and opportunities.
The entry deadline for the Essay & Creative Arts Competition sponsored by the Palm Beach Fellowship of Christians & Jews has been extended to March 12. The contest is open to all middle and high school students in public, private, parochial and charter schools in the county. Categories include essay writing, music, video and visual arts, with middle and high school divisions. The topic, “The Road Not Taken,” is inspired by the Robert Frost poem. Students can win cash prizes and other gifts. Supervising teachers are eligible to win gift cards for school supplies. Sailor Sabol has been selected as a National Youth Delegate to the 2018 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University. She joins a select group of 300 students from across the country to participate in an intensive, week-long study of leadership in environmental science and conservation. Sabol was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in leadership in the sciences and conservation studies.
