Bethesda-by-the-Sea, the county’s oldest church, hopes to woo new parishioners by spotlighting its museum-quality works.

When Father James Harlan accepted the position as rector at Palm Beach’s historic Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, he thought he’d be spending more time talking about God than money. And he does. Barely.

The church is a business and like any business — even one that attracts A-listers like Michael Jordan, who was married there April 27, and fashion icon Lilly Pulitzer, who was eulogized there the week before — the last few years have presented unique financial challenges.
