WHY THEY LOVE IT: Nine summers ago, New Yorker Stephen Buxbaum moved his family south from Long Island, and he did this for a couple of reasons.
He thought the weather would be nicer. “I was tired of the cold and the winters and shoveling snow,” he says. He thought the job market might be better. At the time, he was working in nuclear medicine. And he thought he could get more for his money down here.
Buxbaum said he was right, especially after their real estate agent showed them their house in Victoria Grove.
“We essentially got twice the house compared to what we had on Long Island,” says Buxbaum, who also says they’re paying “half the real estate tax.”
It was a tough move, his daughters — now teenagers, with one set to graduate this spring — had a hard time leaving their friends, he said. So the neighborhood nestled among all that western commerce along State Road 441 turned out to be perfect for them. All of them. And he loves that there’s a community pool and that the association takes care of all his lawn care.
The Buxbaum house is a great design for two parents and two kids, he says. The girls have separate bedrooms, connected with a Jack and Jill bathroom. He and Susan have a nice master suite. And then there’s that extra room, which they use for everything from putting up visiting relatives to working on home and school projects.
“I love our house,” Buxbaum says. “Now, if I mention the idea of leaving, they say they’re staying.”
