What: Wedgwood lavender on cream Queensware cream pitcher
Where: BKG Antique Mall, 32 S. Dixie Highway, Lake Worth; 561-533-7707 or brucekodner.com
How much: $15
Why it’s special: Size matters when it comes to collecting.
The largest and the smallest of any genre typically tend to attract the most attention, simply because they usually are the hardest to find. Wedgwood made this Queensware pattern, called simply “Lavender on Cream,” from 1957 to 1983, a comparatively short time. But the pattern is fairly ubiquitous.
You seldom see these miniature pieces; this 2-inch pitcher most likely was classified as an individual creamer.
I love the detail of the embossed classical motif, which reminds me of the Jasperware for which Wedgwood has been famous for the better part of 250 years.
And that design stands the test of time.
