What: Florsheim Thayer McNeil advertising hand mirror
Where: Animal Rescue League Thrift Store, 1905 S. Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach; 561-833-8131
How much: $5
Why it’s special: I’d have been a heel to have passed on this advertising mirror, which almost certainly dates from the 1960s. It is a great piece, right down to the buttons on its high-topped shoe.
Florsheim sold women’s shoes through its Thayer McNeil stores, and began to phase out its line of women’s shoes during the 1970s.
The mirror, reminiscent of metal pieces made in the ‘60s in Italy, probably was given as a thank-you gift for shoe purchases.
It has appeal to collectors of fashion items, as well as to those who collect advertising items. I’ve seen similar mirrors priced at $50 online.
That strikes me as a little dear; still, the mirror is utterly cute, making it a shoe-in for this column.
