A Jupiter resident brought a hand grenade to the police department Tuesday evening, closing off the area as authorities safely remove the device.
An unnamed resident went to the Jupiter police department, off of west Indiantown Road and Military Trail, with a family member’s hand grenade they believe is from the World War II area. It’s unclear if the device is still active, but authorities are making sure the area is safe by moving the explosive device to a vacant parking lot away from the buildings.
Police said there is no danger to the community, but have asked the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office’s Explosive Ordinance Device Unit so the grenade can be removed safely.
Authorities expect the area to be clear by 7 p.m.
