Who he is: Mark Pafford is a Florida native, born in Dade County, with a bachelor’s of public administration from Florida International University. Pafford serves his community as the representative for District 86 in the Florida House of Representatives. He was first elected to the Florida House in 2008. He cut his teeth in politics in the ’90s as State Representative Lois Frankel legislative assistant, a position he held until 1997. He has also worked in community based non-profit organizations, including many years at Alzheimer’s Association.
This year has been one of personal growth, Pafford says. Years of rich food and too much time sitting in meetings had driven up his weight and earned him a dire diagnosis: Diabetes. So he modified his diet, and started moving more. It worked. He dropped 40 pounds and significantly reduced the severity of his diabetes in the past six months.
