Is it possible to pile entirely too much flavor onto one plate — say, serving a taco filled with tender ahi tuna, next to a delicately flavored crab cake, alongside a savory chicken empanada?
Um, no, no it’s not.
Not at Cantina Laredo, where the Botanas Trio ($14.99) provides the perfect sampler of modern Mexican cuisine. The appetizer is one of several new menu items recently unveiled at the chain’s Midtown location in Palm Beach Gardens.
We can also heartily recommend the new Quesadillas al Cangrejo ($13.79), little tortillas filled with lump crab meat, goat cheese and mango-ginger salsa, and the Torta de Pollo ($10.99), a griddle-baked chicken sandwich given a kick by chipotle aioli and a bit of crunch with mango-avocado slaw.
A sweet foil to all this savoriness: Cantina Laredo’s Caramelized Pineapple ($7), one of three sorbet cocktails available for a limited time.
Made with Herradura Reposado tequila and Cointreau orange liqueur, the dessert beverage also contains puréed caramelized pineapple (genius!), orange juice and cayenne, poured over Häagen-Dazs Lemon Sorbet.
Too many flavors for one martini glass to handle?
Not a chance.
