There’s something about Field of Greens C.Y.O. Salads (that’s Create Your Own) that brings out the rabbit in you.
“I’ll take tomatoes, and cucumbers and broccoli, and this and this and that and this,” and a twenty seconds later you’ve got a huge, delicious pile of veggies that would get any bunny drooling.
But there’s a new kid in town at the Field of Greens on Clematis Street – one that might give the salad bar a run for the money.
Welcome to Field of Greens’ new juice bar. More than 15 choices from fresh juices to smoothies to protein shakes. Prices are reasonable for all your slurpable meals – straight-up citrus is $3.25 for 12 ounces, juice blends are $5.25 for 12 ounces. Smoothies are $3.95 for 16 ounces and protein shakes are $4.95 for 16 ounces. Your spirulina and flax seed will cost you a buck extra.
“I think juice bars right now are what ten years ago the coffee revolution was,” said Hess Musallet, managing partner. “Everywhere you see them – in Miami, in New York. People are doing juice cleanses. We found that juicing is really huge. We bought one juicing machine and it wasn’t enough and now we’re up to three juicing machines.”
In a few weeks, Field of Greens will offer the option of organic juices as well as start bottling. The most popular juices are Green Ivy and the Cleanser, a mixture of carrot, apple, orange, beet, celery and kale ($5.25 for 12 ounces).
The smoothies and shakes look great, too, particularly the Melon Zinger smoothie made with honeydew, pineapple and ginger. For both the juices and smoothies, they offer a C.Y.O. option as well.
It’s a beautiful space — a funky glass chandelier, reclaimed wood, a community table, rosemary plants on the tables — designed by Sterling Kenan, who gave Buccan its rustic-chic vibe. This space has an upscale vibe that plays nicely off Field of Greens menu, which was updated by Musallet and Aaron Black, executive chef at PB Catch.
