Ringwald sings jazz?
Yeah, who knew? But in recent years, Molly Ringwald has taken a lot of paths far from her famous days in John Hughes movies. In addition to stage acting, a TV show and writing a book, she has now released a jazz debut album, “Except…Sometimes,” on Concord Records and she will be appearing at Mizner Park’s new jazz nightclub, JAZZIZ Nightlife, on May 1 and 2 for four shows as part of the club’s official grand opening. A quick listen to her new album proves that Ringwald has an appealing talk-sing voice in the manner of Blossom Dearie and she covers both standards and a stylish re-do of Stephen Sondheim’s “Dick Tracy” song “Sooner Or Later,” originally sung by Madonna. For the ’80s obsessed, the album closes with her remake of “Don’t You Forget About Me,” from “The Breakfast Club.” Squee!
