Greg Bautzer’s was not a name that was widely known outside of Los Angeles. That’s because Greg Bautzer was an entertainment lawyer, but not just any entertainment lawyer. In the words of John Grisham, he was a rainmaker — the guy that other lawyers were scared of, the guy that could fix any problem or negotiate any deal. Among other clients, he represented Howard Hughes for the past 15 years of his life, and placed a largely untried Robert Evans at the head of Paramount Pictures.
He also had a well-deserved reputation as one of the great studs of the movie business, a man who could have given lessons to Warren Beatty and probably did. He was tall, actor-handsome, a great dancer, an archetypal smooth operator. He even ended up marrying a movie star — Dana Wynter, the star of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.”
