This week’s spot: The Funky Buddha Lounge & Brewery
The scene: Are you still wearing a tie? At least loosen it when you step into one of the coolest venues in Palm Beach County, where you can catch a nightly show (from open mic to well-known bands of all musical persuasion) along with some of the best handcrafted micro-brewed beers in Florida, in a laid back setting of post-college Eastern decor: Buddhas, hookahs, kava, red-and-gold tapestries and funky local art. Don’t let its mini-mall exterior fool you. Hipsters to office drones congregate at the concrete where you can order 115 different kinds of beers, including The Funky Buddha’s brews, which are now being distributed from their larger brewery in Oakland Park. But this location is still the place where you can get the experimental brews made one barrel at a time, and the chilled-out setting perfect for an after-work detour.

WHAT’S ON TAP
The Funky Buddha experiments with a host of flavors throughout the year from piña colada and mango to rich and flavorful IPAs and stouts. These are their four traditional beers.
- Floridian: A tasty thirst-quencher brewed in the German hefeweizen style with Florida orange-blossom honey. It’s a middle-weight at 5.5 percent alcohol by volume.
- Hop Gun: A balanced India Pale Ale that uses six different kinds of hops to create a rich, layered flavor that is bold without being bitter. Comes in at a strong 7.8 ABV.
- Piiti Porter: From the Buddhist term meaning bliss, Piiti Porter uses a variety of chocolates and malts and lactose milk sugar to create a slick, creamy flavor. Watch the intake with 6.3 percent ABV.
- Red Dawn: It’s deep amber color portends scents of apricot, berry and caramel while remaining medium-bodied and only lightly hopped. Rated at 6.3 percent ABV.
