Woman sells fentanyl as heroin, faces attempted murder charge

A Fort Pierce woman is facing an attempted murder charge after she sold fentanyl to a man who then overdosed, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.

After the man collapsed in front of her, Rebecca Lindsey Miggins allegedly left the hotel room they were in without either assisting the man or calling for help.

Miggins, 32, allegedly sold the drugs to the man claiming it was heroin instead of fentanyl, which is up to 100 times stronger than heroin.

As Miggins exited a sheriff’s patrol car at the county jail, deputies found a white powdery substance in the back seat that tested possible for heroin and fentanyl.

While being strip searched at the jail, a plastic bag containing Xanax was found “in her body,” Sheriff Ken Mascara said.

Another bag of heroin and fentanyl “fell from her body,” Mascara said, while Miggins was being held at the jail’s medical unit,

Aside from the attempted murder, Miggins is also facing two counts of tampering or destroying evidence, four counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of introducing contraband into a detention facility.

Miggins is being held in lieu of $415,000 bail.
