West Palm man snatches woman’s purse at Publix, run down by witness

A West Palm Beach man was arrested Sunday after he snatched a purse from a 78-year-old woman shopping at a Publix, according to an arrest report.

A witness gave chase and caught up with Anthony Douglas Shue, who handed over the woman’s purse, city police said in the report.

Shue, 49, is facing a charge of robbery by sudden snatching and is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.

The victim told city police she was entering the Publix at 500 Belvedere Road, in the Belmart Plaza just west of Dixie Highway, when Shue grabbed her purse and ran into the parking lot. The witness was parking his car when he realized the woman was being robbed. He jumped out and chased Shue, who handed back the purse and kept running.

Shue told police that a man who had the same shirt, same physical build and was “redneck-looking” like himself had stolen the purse, the report said.

I used to think that I was a champ at answering nasty emails. But then I observed Lake Worth City Manager Mike Bornstein, a veritable master of email jiu jitsu. “Generally when someone is using vulgar language it reflects ultimate frustration and anger about something,” Bornstein explained to me. “In order to ratchet down the emotions...
