VIDEO: State representative’s arrest captured by FHP dashboard camera

A dashcam video provided this week by the Florida Highway Patrol shows the moments leading to the DUI arrest of a state representative last month.

State Rep. Cary Pigman was charged with drunken driving the night of March 23 following a traffic stop on Florida’s Turnpike near the Fort Pierce service plaza in St. Lucie County.

Pigman, 58, of Avon Park, represents a largely rural district that includes Highlands, Glades and Okeechobee counties and part of western St. Lucie County. He was released from the St. Lucie County Jail the following day after posting a $750 bond.

The video shows troopers pull Pigman over and ask him to step out of his vehicle after it weaved between lanes of traffic. A trooper asks Pigman about an open bottle of wine that was found in the car. Pigman denies purchasing the wine and does not respond when asked why the bottle was open.

The charge is a misdemeanor.
