UPDATE: Man, 29, found fatally shot on I-95 in Boca worked at Margate restaurant

2:15 p.m. UPDATE: Edvin Milkevic, 29, partnered with friend Pierce Brehm to create Boca Raton-based Dash Capital Partners, which never quite took off and hasn’t been active for a year, Brehm said.

Most of Milkevic’s time was spent working at a restaurant called Pasta And in Margate, where he “handled everything” from management to waiting tables and running food, Brehm said.

Brehm said he met Milkevic at Pasta And about five years ago.

“He was the most genuine person I’ve ever met,” Brehm said. “If you ever needed someone, he’d be here.”

12:15 p.m. UPDATE: Boca Raton police identified the man found fatally shot along Interstate 95 early Wednesday as Edvin Milkevic, 29, of Boca Raton.

Milkevic worked at Dash Capital Partners in Boca Raton. A partner at the firm declined comment Wednesday when told of Milkevic’s death.

The Florida Highway Patrol stressed that the shooting was not related to one along Interstate 95 in Lantana later in the morning.

Original post: A black sports car flew past paving-crew workers and a Florida Highway Patrol trooper early Wednesday and veered off Interstate 95 near Yamato Road in Boca Raton, striking a safety barrel, the sliding into the side median.

When the trooper got to it, he found the driver had been fatally shot, Boca Raton police said.

“He wasn’t traveling at a high rate of speed. There wasn’t any damage to the car,” Boca Raton police spokesman Mark Economou told reporters at an 8 a.m. news conference near the Clint Moore Road overpass to I-95. He said Boca Raton Fire-Rescue took the man to Delray Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

“We don’t know where he was shot. We believe he was shot on I-95. We don’t know by who at this point. We don’t know where he was coming from.”

Economou said police know the man’s identity and that he’s from the Boca Raton area. He said they won’t reveal more until they inform his relatives.

Economou said police were not ready Wednesday morning to say the shooting was a homicide, as opposed to a suicide, but called it shooting “suspicious.” He said the man was in the car when he was shot.

Police canvassed the highway for evidence, which kept the road closed for hours.

Southbound lanes of the highway between Linton Boulevard and Yamato Road started to reopen shortly before 9 a.m. Boynton Beach police reported slowdowns as far north as Gateway Boulevard.
