PBSO: Georgia man brought meth to Palm Beach County

A Georgia man’s trip to South Florida for an alleged drug transaction ended with his arrest by Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies.

Joshua J. Stowers, 25, of Gainesville, Ga., was arrested Saturday morning outside the Riverbridge Centre shopping plaza after deputies found nearly 1,000 grams of methamphetamine in his possession, according to an arrest report made public Tuesday. He allegedly confessed to transporting the drugs from Georgia and said that he planned to meet with an unidentified man in West Palm Beach to sell them.

Stowers was released Tuesday from the Palm Beach County Jail on $30,000 bond after being charged with trafficking in more than 200 grams of methamphetamine.

Deputies reportedly stopped Stowers in the 6700 block of Forest Hill Boulevard, near Jog Road, for failing to drive his Mitsubishi SUV in a single lane. A sheriff’s K-9 then walked around the exterior of the vehicle and alerted deputies that it smelled narcotics.

Deputies searched the car and found a marijuana cigarette in the glove box and a back pack on the floor behind the driver’s seat, the report said. The backpack contained a Tupperware container filled with a crystal substance that was later determined to be methamphetamine, deputies said.

A woman was seated in the passenger seat. Stowers spontaneously told deputies the woman was his girlfriend and said she had no knowledge of any illegal items in the car, the report said.
