Palm Beach Gardens woman found dead at Big Cypress National Preserve

A Palm Beach Gardens woman was found dead Friday night at a campsite at the Big Cypress National Preserve, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Angela Barone, 48, was found by her husband in the water at the Mitchell Landing Campsite on Loop Road in the preserve, which is about 45 miles west of Miami.

The campsite is in a remote section of the preserve. Barone was placed in an airboat by her husband, who then set out to get help.

There did not appear to be signs of foul play, the sheriff’s office said.

Barone’s husband told sheriff’s deputies that his wife suffered from unidentified medical conditions.

The Miccosukee Police Department and National Park Service is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
