NEW: Jupiter man, 84, accused of molesting teen while on trip to Tampa

An 84-year-old Jupiter man was arrested this week after investigators say he molested a teenager near Tampa in 2015.

Jupiter police on Wednesday arrested William Flanders at his home on an out-of-county warrant. He faces one count of lewd and lascivious molestation on a minor, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said Flanders touched the teen, then 13, in a “sexually inappropriate manner” on several occasions while they were on vacation together. The teen, now 15, came forward to an adult about the incident in March, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

It’s unclear how the Jupiter resident and the teen know each other or why they were vacationing together.

Flanders will be extradited to Pinellas County to face the charge.

The 84-year-old does not appear to have any other criminal history, according to court records.
