A 38-year-old man faces an attempted murder charge after he allegedly tried to shoot a Lyft driver who had just dropped off three passengers from Palm Beach County at a Palm City address early Sunday.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office says Dylan Randall Frost fired a shotgun multiple times at the driver at about 3:30 a.m. at the Coquina Cove Apartments, east of Florida’s Turnpike and west of Southwest Martin Downs Boulevard.
No injuries were reported. Frost was being held at the Martin County Jail late Wednesday after a judge set his bail amount at $510,000.
According to the arrest report, Frost, a Palm City resident, spontaneously made statements to deputies about “black people being in the neighborhood.” He told investigators that someone had previously held a gun to his head and reportedly told his girlfriend he “would do this if they came back again.”
The driver for Lyft, a ride-hailing service, told investigators he had never seen Frost before.
Deputies say the driver pulled to the side of the road to check directions when Frost approached carrying a shotgun and fired at least two shots.
The driver sped away and called police as he drove back to Palm Beach County. Martin County deputies responded to the apartment complex and viewed surveillance-camera video provided by the complex’s property manager.
They identified Frost as the suspect and took him into custody a short time later. Frost faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and shooting a deadly weapon into an occupant.
