City police are investigating a shooting late Tuesday at the intersection of East and Lake streets south of downtown Stuart.

A 20-year-old Stuart woman was shot just after 8 p.m. Tuesday. She was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce. She underwent surgery Tuesday night and was in stable condition on Wednesday afternoon, according to a statement by the Stuart Police Department.

As of Wednesday morning, police had neither a suspect nor a motive for the shooting.

Chief David Dyess said community members including business owners and members of religious organizations have reached out to help with the investigation.
