PHOTOS: Boy, 9, dies in Fort Pierce Christmas crash, sister critical

A 9-year-old boy died Christmas Day — his birthday — in a Fort Pierce car crash at Cortez and Sunrise boulevards, Fort Pierce police said.

Issac Santillan, who turned 9 on Monday, was one of four people in the Toyota Corolla that crashed into an unoccupied, parked Ford pickup. Santillan’s 5-year-old sister, Alani Ruiz, was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach and is in critical condition, police said.

Her father and an unidentified woman also were injured and taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce. Police say the man, Julio Ruiz, is in stable condition and the woman is in critical condition.
