JUST IN: County courthouse partially evacuated after smoke detected


UPDATE, 2:15 p.m.: Courthouse evacuees have been allowed to return to the Palm Beach County courthouse after the fourth and fifth floors were evacuated because of smoke, according to a West Palm Beach Fire Rescue spokesman.

UPDATE, 1:25 p.m.: Courthouse evacuees have been ordered across the street and off areas adjacent to the courthouse.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Palm Beach County courthouse in downtown West Palm Beach has been partially evacuated because of a small fire in the building’s fourth floor, according to West Palm Beach Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Brent Bloomfield.

A hazardous material truck, as well as several fire trucks, have responded to the scene.

The fourth and fifth floors of the building have been evacuated, Bloomfield said.

No fire was found but investigators are looking into what caused the smoke.

There are no reports of injuries.
