JUST IN: BMW stolen from West Palm crashes into Mercedes-Benz in Keys

A 2014 silver BMW stolen from West Palm Beach crashed into a Mercedez-Benz van on the Overseas Highway this weekend, landing a Broward County teenager in jail, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.

A friend riding with Alexander Mors, 18, of Pompano Beach told sheriff’s deputies Mors had told him they were headed to a graduation party. The friend said he thought Mors had rented the car and that he told Mors to pull the car over when a deputy began to pursue him, but Mors refused.

Authorities say Mors stole the car from an unspecified site in West Palm BEach. He is facing charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing a law-enforcement officer and driving with no valid driver’s license, according to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office report released Sunday.

Mors was released from custody during the weekend.

A deputy spotted the stolen vehicle going southbound on the highway at the 98-mile marker and saw the car turn into a Domino’s Pizza parking lot, the sheriff’s office said. When the officer turned on his patrol lights, the vehicle left the parking lot and continued southbound.

The BMW then collided with the van also going northbound, the sheriff’s office said.
